Ladies of Jazz is a performance group that consists of the Twin Cities premier female vocalists. The ladies originally pulled together to record the tribute song, Ladies of Jazz, in support of youth in the arts. The song Ladies of Jazz pays homage to female pioneers of jazz such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson. Lyrically, the song brings awareness to the struggles these women endured in order for their voices to be heard. As a performance group, the Ladies of Jazz strive to continue the legacy of these pioneers, hence the song lyric “we can’t forget the gift you gave.” |
